ANnouncementsPaid Internship in Science and Health Training and Research (ISHTaR)
The Internship in Science and Health Training and Research (ISHTaR) is a summer internship for rising high school seniors and juniors. Within ISHTaR, 2-3 high school students are chosen each summer to work with a research team. Students become part of the team, performing research tasks, developing written materials, and shadowing in-hospital and ambulance providers.
ISHTaR is specifically geared toward local minority and/or low socioeconomic students in order to increase exposure to healthcare and research to those who are underrepresented in medicine. This internship is a paid position with the understanding that interns will work between 20 and 40 hours/week. Please see this link for more information on the program. https://www.med.unc.edu/emergmed/education/ishtar/ The Cisco High School STEM Program is a comprehensive 2 to 4-week unpaid summer externship designed to give top, STEM and business focused students an introduction to Cisco’s history, culture, and the technology industry. Students will be engaged in interactive project work, problem-solving, and learn to communicate with industry professionals and peers.

The Young Innovators Program is developing the next generation of innovative thinkers by engaging exceptional high school students in hands-on laboratory research, encouraging them to explore STEM opportunities in pharmaceutical science research, and empowering them to discover new ways to improve the health of patients through the practice of pharmacy. The Perry Outreach Program on Saturday, April 25, 2020 at Duke University in Durham, NC is a free, one-day, hands-on experience for high school women who are interested in pursuing careers in medicine and engineering. Students will hear from women leaders in these fields and try it for themselves by performing mock orthopedic surgeries and biomechanics experiments. Applicants should be directed to fill out our online application in advance of the March 25, 2020 application deadline. College Board ScholarshipsThe more effort you put in, the more chances you get to earn a scholarship ranging from $500 to $2,000. If you complete all six steps, you’re eligible to earn a $40,000 scholarship. Scholarships are awarded--through monthly drawings--to students who complete each step.
